This master thesis presents specific optimization measures in the lighting system of a commercial building. It was built in 2009 and expands across six floors of offices and chemical laboratories. The existing lighting in this building consists of compact fluorescent tubes and several different models of fluorescent tubes. At first, the actual operating hours of the lighting were determined using a self-assembled measuring instrument. Based on these measurements, an extrapolation for a whole year was carried out for each room of the building. Because of an inspection and as well of existing installation plans, it was possible to compile a comprehensive set of data. In this way, savings potentials are shown and tailored measures for the optimization of the lighting system are proposed. By implementing this outcome at the building, more than 30% of the electricity consumption for lighting in this building can be economized. The amortization period ranges, dependent on the single measures, between 3 and 12 years. The recommendations concern the exchange of lighting means, the installation of motion detectors and the re-activation of existing motion detectors.
