Abstract:
This thesis examines the demand for forest fuels in the biomass power stations in the districts Feldkirchen and St. Veit and the development of supply chains for forest fuels. Currently there is a nominal energy capacity of 108,000 kW. Annually 516,000 kWh/a energy is produced using 673,000 cubic meters of loose chips. In contrast the annual available forest fuel potential in the wood is 208.000 cubic meter of solid wood including bark or approximately 520,000 cubic meters of loose chips. Four supply chains involving the sub-processes of timber harvesting, transport and transformation into loose chips will be graphically and numerically presented. Storage areas are part of three supply chains, where the accumulated forest fuel is temporarily stored and processed. The fundamental requirements and laws regarding the construction and maintenance of a storage area are discussed. The construction and running costs are calculated with the help of an annuity repayment and deducted from the yearly turnover from the forest chips. The resulting costs show that the supply chain variant involving transport directly from the forest to the power station without temporary storage is the most financially viable variant.
