Abstract
We develop two new types of equipment at the Institute for Biologically Inspired Materials that are crucial for third-party financed projects in the areas of microbiology and biomimetic polymer synthesis. One of these pieces of equipment is based on internal research and cannot be procured commercially. The other can be built much more versatile and at a lower cost than it can be purchased commercially. The two pieces of equipment are: 1. Digital holographic microscopy to analyze cellular and bacterial interactions. 2. Setup for automated synthesis (synthesis-robot), for the synthesis monomer by monomer of polypeptoids with defined sequences.

- Polypeptoid synthesis
