FORED Forest Research for Development
Abstract
The third and final phase of the Conifer Research and Training Partnership between the partners BOKU and RNR-RC Jakar, Bhutan aims at poverty reduction in rural areas, a consolidation of education and the implementation of research results from CORET phase II. Training of researchers in this field should be further strengthened, in order to be able to independently address research questions dealing with the above aim. The strong orientation on rural poverty eradication is reflected through the focus on non-timber forest products and their sustainable utilization. Results generated should form a solid base for political decisions in order to prevent degradation of forest areas in Bhutan. Scientific evidence and their practical application should be intimated to field foresters to further strengthen implementation of results.
